Profound alternatives for small businesses

Profound's published plans start at 99 dollars a month and rise to custom enterprise pricing. Here are the honest alternatives by the job you actually have, including where Citedon does not fit.

Every competitor fact below was read from the vendor's own public pricing or product page on 2026-08-06 and is quoted as published on that date. Feature sets and prices in this category change often; re-check before you buy.

Quick answer

If Profound is more platform than you need, the alternatives split by job. For monitoring and share of voice across AI answers, Otterly starts at 29 dollars a month and Peec at 95 dollars a month, both on monthly billing. For a zero-cost look, several free checkers give a one-time snapshot. For fixing the machine-readable gaps on a WordPress site and watching them stay fixed, that is what Citedon does. Citedon does not do continuous competitive share-of-voice tracking, so it is not a drop-in Profound replacement.

Most people searching for a Profound alternative are not looking for a cheaper Profound. They looked at the platform, recognized it was built for a bigger operation than theirs, and want to know what the smaller version of the job looks like.

So start with the job, not the price. There are three different jobs hiding inside "AI visibility", and the right alternative depends on which one you have.

What Profound actually is, as published

Profound is an answer-engine platform: it runs structured prompts across AI platforms and reports where and how your brand appears, alongside content-generation agents and analytics on AI-sourced traffic.

Read from its pricing page on 2026-08-06, the published plans are:

  • Starter, 99 dollars a month on monthly billing. ChatGPT tracking only, 50 prompts tracked, 100 agent credits a month, 1 seat, email support. Switching the page's billing toggle to yearly brings it to 82.50 a month.
  • Growth, 399 dollars a month on monthly billing. Three answer engines tracked (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews), 100 prompts, 400 agent credits a month, 3 seats. Yearly billing brings it to 332.50 a month.
  • Enterprise, custom. Up to 9 answer engines tracked, multiple companies, tailored prompt plan, SSO/SAML plus SOC2, dedicated Slack support.

Two things are worth noting rather than glossing over. First, self-serve tiers exist now, so "Profound is enterprise-only" is out of date. Second, the company describes itself as built for enterprise brands with a global footprint, and the feature depth reflects that. A five-person firm buying Starter gets one engine and one seat.

Profound also publishes a free AEO Report that analyzes a brand across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, which is a reasonable way to see the shape of the data before spending anything.

Profound is a trademark of its owner. Everything above is quoted from its public pages on the date given and is our reading, not its claim about competitors.

Where Citedon does not fit, before anything else

If you came here from a search for an alternative, here is the part that should come first.

Citedon does not do continuous share-of-voice monitoring. It does not track a prompt set daily, it does not chart your brand against competitors over time, and it does not monitor your competitors at all. A competitor appears in a Citedon scan as a one-time diagnostic, not as a tracked series.

So Citedon is not a drop-in Profound replacement. If your reason for looking is "I need to see my share of AI answers versus three rivals, weekly, with a chart my boss will accept", Citedon will not do that and you should read the monitoring section below instead.

Citedon solves the other half: whether engines can read your pages at all, and closing the gaps when they cannot. That half is invisible to a monitor. A dashboard can tell you that you were absent from an answer; it cannot tell you that three of four engines could not parse the service page you were absent from.

Also: the apply step is WordPress-only. On other platforms Citedon scans and diagnoses, and you do the editing.

The alternatives, by the job you have

Job one: you want continuous monitoring and share of voice

This is what Profound does, and it is the most crowded part of the market. Published pricing checked 2026-08-06. Every price below is the monthly-billing figure, because all three vendors default their pricing page to a different billing term and comparing across them is how people end up with the wrong number.

ToolEntry price, monthly billingPrompts at entryEngines trackedApplies fixes to your site
Profound99 dollars a month50ChatGPT only on Starter; 3 on Growth; up to 9 on EnterpriseNo, monitors and recommends
Otterly29 dollars a month15ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, MS Copilot; Claude, Gemini and AI Mode as paid add-onsNo, monitors and recommends
Peec95 dollars a month50Choose 3 from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Perplexity, GeminiNo, analytics and benchmarking
Citedon29 dollars a month (scan free, 19 dollar one-time report below it)3 tracked queries, 15 on Pro, 60 on GrowthChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, ClaudeYes, on WordPress, with per-fix approval

Annual billing lowers all three: Profound to 82.50 and 332.50, Otterly to 25, 160 and 422, Peec to 80, 205 and 420.

Otterly's monthly tiers continue at 189 dollars for 100 prompts and 489 for 400, with a free trial and no credit card required to start. Peec's continue at 245 and 495 dollars a month for 150 and 350 prompts, with unlimited users and daily tracking on every paid tier, and an Enterprise tier at custom pricing that widens the model list to eleven.

If you are a small business and the honest requirement is "tell me weekly whether AI mentions us", the 29 dollar tier is the cheapest published entry point into real tracking, and it is a fair reason to pick it over anything on this page including us.

Job two: you want to know where you stand, once, for nothing

A one-time snapshot is often enough to decide whether this whole category is worth budget. Several free checkers do this, including Profound's own free AEO Report. We compared them side by side in free AI visibility checkers compared.

The limit of a snapshot is that it has no memory. Run it, learn something, and you still have no way to know next quarter whether what you learned is still true.

Job three: you want the gaps actually closed

This is the job none of the monitors above do, by their own descriptions. Each reports and recommends; none applies machine-readable schema directly to your site.

You have two real options here.

Do it yourself. Read each page the way a machine would, write and validate the JSON-LD, make sure it does not collide with what Yoast or Rank Math already emits, test whether the engines can read the page now, and repeat every time you publish or an engine shifts. Entirely doable. We wrote the honest version of that trade-off in Citedon vs doing AEO yourself. For a five-page site it is the right call and we will say so.

Or run the loop. Citedon scans your page across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, scores readiness, generates the missing layer, and on WordPress applies it through your existing plugin with a preview you approve and a rollback. Then the watch re-checks on a schedule and raises an alert when your readiness or citation rate drops, because your content, the engines and the applied fixes all drift.

Old way, new way

The old way ends at the dashboard. You log in, you see that you were absent from an answer, and the fixing goes back on your plate. A ticket gets raised, a developer half-implements the schema, and the next report shows the same gap.

The new way keeps the measurement and closes the loop on the pages you control. Write the missing structure into the page, approve it, re-scan, and read whether the gap closed. Then watch it, because being readable is a state you maintain, not a task you complete.

Neither approach promises a citation. That is not on offer from anyone honest.

How to choose in one pass

  • Enterprise brand, many markets and languages, needs agents and AI-traffic analytics: Profound is built for that.
  • Small team, wants low-cost tracking and cares about Copilot or AI Overviews coverage: Otterly's entry tier is the cheapest published.
  • Marketing team that wants competitive benchmarking with unlimited seats: Peec is positioned there.
  • You want to know once, for free, whether this matters to you: run a free checker.
  • You are on WordPress, you already suspect the pages are unreadable, and you want that fixed and kept fixed: that is Citedon.
  • Three pages, rarely edited, and you enjoy hand-writing schema: do it yourself and skip all of the above.

These are not mutually exclusive. A team can run a monitor for the share-of-voice picture and use Citedon to apply and maintain the machine-readable layer on the WordPress properties inside it.

Start with the measurement

Before you subscribe to anything in this category, find out whether the pages you would be tracking can even be read.

The first scan is free, any site, no signup, and takes about a minute. You get a readiness score, the specific gaps behind it, and which of the four engines returned your page today. Run a free scan.
