Citation (in AI answers)
A reference an AI engine attaches to its answer, naming or linking the source it drew on, so a reader can see which page the claim came from.
You want to know if AI engines cite your site. The honest first answer is a question back: have you ever measured it, or are you guessing from one lucky screenshot?
A citation is countable. Treating it as a thing you measure, not a thing anyone sells you, is where this page starts.
What a citation is
A citation in an AI answer is the source the engine attaches to what it says. It names or links the page a claim came from, so the reader can see who the answer is built on.
In old search, your credit was a ranked link a human might click. In an AI answer, your credit is the citation. It is the visible proof that the machine read you and used you.
Why this is a measurement, never a promise
Here is the line Citedon will not cross. We do not promise citations, and we will tell you plainly that no tool can.
The engine decides what to cite. It weighs your page against every other source, and it changes its mind as models update. Anyone guaranteeing you a citation is selling you a coin flip dressed as a contract.
What is real is the measurement. You can check whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude cite you today for the questions that matter, and watch that number move. A citation rate is a fact. A citation guarantee is not.
Old way, new way
The old way: you chased rankings and inferred success from traffic.
The new way: you measure citations directly. You ask the engines the questions your buyers ask and record who they name. The metric is no longer a position. It is whether you appear in the answer at all.
The damaging admission
Citedon cannot make an engine cite you, and we would rather lose the sale than pretend we can. We also cannot fix non-WordPress sites for you, only diagnose them.
What we can do is measure whether you are cited now, and whether your page is even readable enough to be a candidate. A page a machine cannot parse will not be cited no matter what anyone promises, so readability is the floor under the whole question.
How to check yours
Start with one page and one question your buyers actually ask. The useful output is not "we want citations." It is "here is whether engines cite us today, and here is the page that is too unreadable to be in the running."
Run a free scan on that URL to see how an engine reads it, or read the guide on how to measure your AI citation rate.
